Our StoryFriends of Tate Manor Park is dedicated to preserving a historic Nashville place and creating a welcoming public space where history, nature, culture and community can thrive together.
A Legacy Planted Here. A Future Growing Here.
In 1903, Mother Mary Magdalena Lewis Tate, a pioneering African American religious leader, founded the Church of the Living God and helped build a movement that would reach communities across the United States.
When Nashville became the denomination’s headquarters in 1924, Heiman Street became more than an address. It became home to a growing legacy of faith, leadership, community and service.
More than a century later, that legacy continues.
In the spirit of Mother Tate, the community she built continues to make its mark through the dedication of the land at Tate Manor to North Nashville for use as a community park, creating a place for gathering, wellness, reflection, recreation and connection in the heart of the neighborhood.
Friends of Tate Manor Park exists to steward that gift and ensure this extraordinary legacy is not simply remembered, but meaningfully experienced by generations to come.
We are bringing together neighbors, businesses, institutions and community partners to help preserve the history of this sacred place while creating a vibrant park that serves the North Nashville of today and tomorrow.
